A compilation of some of my favorite things from 2022
Books
Favorite Books Published in 2022
My two favorite books published in 2022:

Eating to Extinction: The World’s Rarest Foods and Why We Need to Save them - Dan Saladino
A comprehensive anthology of rare foods from around the world and the impact their loss has on culture, health, economies, and our palettes, categorized by type (e.g., vegetables, Fruit, Cheese)

Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands - Kate Beaton
Beautifully illustrated memoir capturing moments of isolation, friendship, and trauma while working in male-dominated oil plants in and around Alberta, Canada.
Other books by category, not necessarily published in 2022 but books I read this year
Thought-Provoking
Books that made me think differently

- Scarcity: Why Having Too Little Means So Much - Sendhil Mullainathan - I gained just as much learning about the temporary, “positive” side-effects of scarcity (”tunneling” or extreme focus) as well as the negative.
- Super Normal: Sensations of the Ordinary - Naota Fukasawa - A small book celebrating the hyper functional and aesthetically satisfying objects of the everyday
- Road to Nowhere: What Silicon Valley Gets Wrong about the Future of Transportation - Parix Marx - Deeply researched book about the history of transportation and the impact car-centric policies have on communities at a macro level
- Between Us: How Cultures Create Emotions - Batja Mesquita - I especially liked the sections about the differences between languages, and how lexicon plays a role in interpretations & valuing of particular emotions
- Good Arguments: How Debate Teaches Us to Listen and Be Heard - Part memoir, part advocacy for the power of debate, I found it fascinating to read about his methodology of dissecting arguments
- Lost & Found - Kathryn Schulz - An insightful read about recovering from loss
